Yaw Tony is A Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist, curator, and designer. Yaw Tony synthesizes architecture, graphic design, and fine art into a practice spanning product design, installations, and creative consulting. His accolades include the 2023 CAFA Award, Best of Craft & Design at TOAF 2023, Black Designers of Canada Award of Excellence (2021), and DesignTO Awards (2019, 2021). His work has been exhibited globally at institutions like the Vitra Design Museum (Germany), Guggenheim Bilbao (Spain), and Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, while featuring in Fashion Magazine, Designlines, and the seminal book Making Africa: A Continent of Contemporary Design.

Through his studio LLiM, Tony explores textile and visual communication projects, anchored in a philosophy interrogating identity, purpose, and human connection. Central to his work is “COLours” (Collection of Ourselves), a study of colour’s emotional resonance and its role in shaping behaviour and spatial experiences. His art invites viewers into layered narratives that celebrate lived beauty while probing existential questions: Who am I? Where am I from? Why am I here? These themes inform his public installations, where site-specific craftsmanship responds to architectural, ecological, and communal contexts, harmonizing aesthetics with functionality.

Tony’s practice challenges societal constructs, urging introspection and authenticity. By framing technology, relationships, and self-discovery through existential inquiry, his work empowers individuals to embrace their innate leadership and gifts. Rejecting superficial facades, his creations act as beacons guiding viewers toward self-realization, underscoring art’s transformative potential in a world where unclaimed potential often languishes. Yaw Tony’s legacy lies in merging beauty with profound inquiry, bridging the personal and universal to illuminate paths toward truth.
