I am Wensi Li, a Toronto-based textile artist with an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art, Media, and Design from OCAD University. My work situates textile art within both historical and contemporary frameworks, shaped by my experience as an Asian woman navigating life between Eastern and Western cultures in Toronto’s multicultural environment.

Through silk, I express and examine my cultural identity. My artistic process draws from traditional Chinese embroidery, Japanese ceramics, and the aesthetics of oriental visual culture, translated through a distinctive textile design language I developed.

In my practice, I deconstruct fragments of inherited identity and reassemble them into new narratives within a contemporary Canadian context. This ongoing process—of tearing apart and stitching back together—reflects my daily exploration of how to exist, belong, and define myself as a woman in a multicultural society.
