PAINTINGS: The Spring Shoreline paintings infuse meaning into arrangements of bedrock that comprise the northwest Georgian Bay shore. Organic configurations of dolostone and limestone are imbued with purpose, emotion, and conceptual frames. Adopting a bird’s eye perspective, the collection conveys a sense of omniscience and offers the viewer space for self-reflexivity. For the creator and the viewer alike, the paintings beg the question, "What do you see in the spring shoreline?"

BIO: Markvart is an emerging, self-taught artist. She holds a BFA in film production from Concordia University and a PhD in Planning from the University of Waterloo. Her career began in the film industry and then transitioned to the environmental sector. She balances her painting practice with working for Parks Canada.

Her paintings explore the connection between psychological and physical environments to illuminate how one shapes our interpretations of the other. Her work draws from the subconscious and gives ordinary objects supernatural abilities. Most of her pieces are completed with acrylic ink on lightly treated wood panel in order to play with the natural grain.
