Robyn is an emerging mixed media artist. She studied Psychology at the University of Guelph, and Fine Arts at the Cleveland Institute of Art. After a 20-year career in User Experience Design, she is now a full-time artist. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the US and Finland.

Robyn’s encaustic pieces are an exploration of her experiences with anxiety. People with anxiety have an extreme fear of uncertainty. They avoid it at all costs, and structure their lives to avoid risks and make the world feel safe and under control. But this sense of safety can eventually become a prison where one finds oneself trapped, too afraid to venture out and try anything new or uncertain.

The core of Robyn’s work is this tension between fear and safety, and constraint and freedom. She uses ordered systems such as grids, patterns, and architecture and plays with the balance between rigidly following a system, being creative within a system, and breaking free from a system entirely. Her pieces often combine the rectilinear structures of man-made systems with the more chaotic, but still orderly, structure of the natural world.
