***
Through the lens of fantasy, my oil paintings redefine interpretation of identity and culture by offering a new read on traditional colonial iconography. My work as a designer for film and video games has developed an awareness of the artist’s responsibility in shaping public opinion. This body of work honours this responsibility by wielding complex symbolic and allegorical compositions, inspired by Pre-Raphaelite and Orientalist art, redefining the fantasy genre and its impact on mass media.
I sketch ideas and symbolism in pencil and paper. Then assemble references images in photoshop, creating compositions. I then paint richly textured oil paintings in various formats from those studies.
