Kit Li
Born in Beijing, Kit Li has lived in Hong Kong, Toronto, London, and New York City, carrying with her a life shaped by movement, contrast, and constant reinvention. Her years in the fashion industry brought her across much of the world, exposing her to extraordinary people, fleeting encounters, and objects both beautiful and bizarre. Kit’s life is full of contrast, culturally and emotionally. She absorbs everything around her — from past to present, East to West, old to new, the mundane to the fantastical — then reshapes these fragments through the lens of memory into something that feels at once familiar and strangely transformed.
The layered collision of cultures, emotions, and visual experiences deeply informs her work, where subtlety exists beside intensity and nostalgia mingles with imagination. Parallel to her corporate career, the need to create art was always present, quietly growing louder over time. In 2023, she made the life-changing decision to leave the fashion world behind and pursue art full-time. Recognition from the City of Toronto, the Guggenheim, and the public has given her the confidence to continue evolving her practice..
