Jill Allan is an award winning Vancouver Island artist living in the territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən speaking peoples. She travelled to Ohio in 2011 to undertake her MFA at BGSU; graduating in 2013. She has worked to design, make and promote her own work as an artist since receiving her BFA from ACAD, Calgary in 1999. She has participated in residencies in Alberta, Germany, Tennessee, and New York State. Jill’s work can be found in the collection of The AFA, Edmonton, the Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass, New York, Kirkwood Community College, Iowa, and the Canadian Craft Museum, Vancouver. Her work interacts with light to reflect and refract, to focus and project, to distort, magnify and ‘minify’, or to amplify and absorb light. Jill uses not just the glass, but also the light to create work that perplexes the viewer’s visual perception, often making work that must be handled to be understood visually - a nod to her haptic process as a maker. This is her first year participating in TOAF and she is excited to join the roster of artists. Please reach out by email if you wish to get in touch with Jill or use the contact form on her website.
