Esther Slevinsky
My work and subject matter has been a one thing led to another story. Working from life in my home studio, I first began painting domestic still life that reflected my daily routine as a mom. Gradually I became focused on kitchen subject matter, fascinated with our connection to food through our history and it's many uses (celebration, nourishment, token of love, or waste). After painting a lot of pie, I wanted to paint a pie without painting pie so I began assembling recipe still life set ups. I am finding a connection between the raw ingredients of a recipe and my painting process. I continue to explore how tweaking my process impacts the feel of my work.
