Ellee SY Lee is a Toronto-based Korean-Canadian visual artist. She creates imaginary paintings that oscillate between abstraction and representation, playing with color, shape, line, and shifting perspectives. Her inspiration draws from a wide range of sources, including personal memories, nature, Eastern philosophical thinking, and art history. The central theme of her work is the dynamic flow and vibrancy of life and nature, in which she finds a sense of beauty, harmony, and wonder. She is currently working on three bodies of work: Innerscape, a series reflecting her inner visions; The Way Things Are, which embraces the irregular and uncontrolled; and Walking with You, a series that celebrates the beauty of the mundane. Her work offers a vicarious escape and a moment of respite from a fatiguing world.
