Dave Brewin
Dave Brewin – Artist of Wood, Light, and Colour
Dave Brewin has been an artist at heart for as long as he can remember. His creative journey began with the timeless craft of boatbuilding, an art he embraced in his mid 20's. At 34, he made the life-changing move from Montreal to Victoria, British Columbia, where he studied and launched a career in professional photography, capturing the world through a discerning lens.
Encouraged by his wife and daughters to explore new avenues of expression, Dave turned to abstract painting in 2017—an evolution that expanded both his creative practice and artistic voice.
In October 2022, Dave rediscovered a long-lost passion: woodturning. Having last worked on a lathe in 1976 during his high school years, he took it up again with renewed enthusiasm. As his skill and artistry developed, Dave began experimenting with various types of wood. Among the most meaningful is grapevine wood gifted to him by his late friend George Hansen of Seven Stones Estate Winery. In honour of George’s legacy, Dave continues to create turned pieces from these original winery vines, preserving a part of the region’s history in each piece.
Now retired, Dave lives with his wife in the peaceful Similkameen Valley, where they settled in 2015 after leaving the busy Lower Mainland. Surrounded by natural beauty and artistic inspiration, Dave has become an active member of the local creative community. He is a proud member of Artists of the Similkameen, the Penticton Arts Council, and an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.
Dave’s unique woodturnings can be found in galleries and wineries throughout the South Okanagan. To view his latest creations and upcoming events, visit his website at www.artisbrewin.com.
