Andrew Salkeld (b. 1987) is a painter based in Toronto, Canada. As a self-taught artist, curiosity and courage are at the forefront of his work. He "plays" with form, line and colour to create bold, evocative figurative and portrait artworks that juxtapose realism with abstraction; play with control. Using found beauty editorial images, he creates stencils to be used as silhouettes and then combines acrylics, spray paint and oil stick to convey figures that resonate on a visceral level.

His work sits in a contemporary expressionist realm, where emotion and mark making take precedence over representation. Each piece commands presence and invites introspection, making way for an examination of how we construct and project ideas of beauty, desire, lust and identity.

If you are interested in purchasing an artwork, please reach out via the email link or on Instagram. His work will also be available in-person from July 10-12 at TOAF65.
