My artwork is an exploration of relationships and connection. I blend figures into textured backgrounds to express our interconnectedness and shared responsibilities; we are inseparable from our contexts. My work places figures within their personal landscapes, whether they are recognizable or abstracted spaces. I am intrigued by the many stories that make up who we are, represented by the layers of materials into which each figure is embedded. Starting with abstract collages of found and made papers, I then integrate an image from sketches or personal photos. This process of drawing and painting figures into the collage transforms chaotic elements into calm, reflective art.
I am a Toronto based artist painting now for over 20 years, full-time since 2018 when I retired from a career in medicine. How fortunate I am to have the opportunity to experience two careers for which I hold such passion! I am thrilled to be back at TOAF where artists can engage with an incredibly diverse range of art lovers.
