I am a copper and textile artist. My textile-based works all begin with handwoven and handknitted copper wire, which is then oxidized, embroidered or treated with wax. Weaving and knitting are techniques which interlace two distinct groups of threads and create functional or ornamental fabrics. In this way, a single wire can transform into a larger, stronger entity, and serves as a sound metaphor for people, voices, and ideas. I believe that traditionally female handicrafts such as knitting, weaving, and embroidery serve not only as expressions of art, but as cathartic methods of coping and transferring grief, investigating personal experiences, and reflecting on political and social issues.TOAF.ca
A graduate of NSCAD, I have exhibited across Canada and sold my work to collectors in the US, Canada, and Europe. My work has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council, City of Ottawa, Craft Ontario, OAE and the Canada Council for the Arts.
