Marica Villeneuve

Nathan Phillips Square
Booth 225
Marica is a Toronto-based artist with a BFA in drawing & painting, and has won awards in both areas. Her practice mainly consists of detailed works depicting her dreams & images from her imagination. Her work often juxtaposes nature with man-made spaces & objects, reflecting a deep desire to be closer to nature, as well as an admiration for what humans have created. In a society where people often feel separate from nature, she believes that recognizing that we are a part of it will allow us to better appreciate & live in harmony with the environment, & hopes that her artwork will inspire this view. The most common subjects in her art are related to the ocean, due to its endlessly inspiring beauty and mystery. By combining realism & surrealism, she hopes to bring the broader dream of environmental harmony closer to reality, in the same way that she brings her own dreams into reality through her paintings, & invites the viewer to look at each artwork like a window into a wondrous world.
