Early Morning Fog Over Spruce Lake
Janna Kumi
Life of bark on old-growth spruce can get complicated. The original bark (12 x 8" [30 x 20 cm]) shows the complexities of white spruce, which grows in every province and territory of Canada. White spruce hybridizes with other spruce species, creating varieties collectively called white spruce. I love how the shapes interlock, and during tree growth, other structures emerge. The work is varnished with several layers of beeswax and comes in a white wood floater frame, ready to hang.
