Following the Line (Ponderosa)

Janna Kumi

The mighty Ponderosa grows in the southern dry Interior of British Columbia, and this particular tree was found along the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake, near Kelowna. The bark is deeply fissured, with shades of orange, beige, peach, cinnamon, and various bluish grays. Three bark scales are the subject in this work, drawn on cradled wood panel and finished with wax varnish. The sides are painted in a bold orange/burnt umber. This piece makes a statement.
