From the COVID series: We 💔 New York

The month after Italy, troubles in New York City made it clear that North America would not escape the worst of the pandemic. I started this piece after talking with a deeply worried woman whose daughter and son-in-law are paramedics in Brooklyn. She told us how they had to reuse N-95 masks and other PPE, and often didn’t have gloves to wear as they worked 24 hour shifts, struggling to save lives. The bagel may be frivolous, but the broken hearts are sincere.
