Gizem Candan

I am a contemporary artist based in Toronto. My work is inspired by my surroundings and the people in my life. My works explore psychological states, using multidisciplinary techniques in oil painting. My subjects range from self-portraits and portraits of people I have met, to puppets I have created, to objects in my environment. My characters exude stoicism and a supple energy that is both graceful and unsettling. Much of my work is introspective, juxtaposing objects and people to explore states of tension and suspense. I work with a vibrant palette based primarily in oils, with canvas, linen, and paper as my supports.
