5 Warhol Inspired -- Double Elvis
Clement Cheng
Warhol created the full size painting “Elvis 2 Times” in 1963. Elvis was an ingenious icon. Given Elvis’ complex career, the icon was imbued with intense contradictions: from sweet romance to murderous violence. I have borrowed the double Elvis figures and surrounded them with loving but incomplete hearts. Below the chest, the two Elvis’ merely share one partitioned body; the viewer needs to complete the picture to, say, locate the second gun. Viewers need to choose: Love or fear Elvis.
