Carla Jacob

Carla Jacob is a sculptor and graduate of OCADu, who lives and works in Toronto Canada.

Her current cycle of work, The Golden Mean, is a look at girls and women navigating their way through life at its most mundane: waiting, walking, lifting, and hauling. They carry gilded objects: crowns, sceptres, and food offerings all of which point to the mythologies and narratives that we are born into. Jacob’s decision to work in clay allows her to poke a little fun at the beloved porcelain collector figurines that depict absurdly idealized scenarios of childhood and domestic contentment.
