Zia Foley

Toronto
Zia was raised on art by a family of artists and travellers. Before choosing art as a career, she lived and worked abroad, travelling through out Asia, the Middle East and Europe. In her work, she draws on this exposure to a variety of cultures.

She has participated in numerous exhibitions in Canada and Turkey. In 2020, she was awarded first place for the drawing category of the Colleges and Institutes Canada’s Student Art Contest, and in 2021 the Dean’s Award for Entrepreneurship and Innovation by Centennial College.

In this series of collages, she explores the line between abstraction and representation. When does a series of shapes become a landscape, a plant, or an animal? And when do these forms come together to tell a story?

When they are completed and displayed, they are meant to be observed like clouds in the sky. What stories do you see in their forms?

To meet the artist and hear more about her work, come join her live on Instagram on Sat July 3 at 3 pm EST.
