Wendy Mataija

I’m a Toronto-based artist focusing on abstract, contemporary, nature-focused liquid art. My art is an invitation to contemplate our relationship with nature.

I typically work with acrylics, metallic pigments and resins using non-traditional techniques that are themselves closely connected with nature - water, wind, fire and gravity - to create the unique and vibrant effects that typify my work. I’m attracted to the aesthetics, methods and experimentation of liquid art. I can carefully study and influence pigment behaviors, energy and movement, but spontaneous reactions in liquid art ultimately triumph! Fundamentally, this mirrors our relationship with nature.

My work can be found in private collections in Canada, the US and Europe, and through Arta Gallery and Westmount Gallery in Toronto. As a member of Workman Arts, I am passionate about advocating for deaf, disability and mad arts. I believe art can heal and awaken. Commissions are welcomed!
