Parveen Dhatt

BRAMPTON
As a self taught multidisciplinary artist, Parveen specializes in mixed media collages, large scale encaustic abstracts and travel photography.

This year she has curated a retrospective of her work “Old, New, Renewed”for TOAF 60, spanning from the 1990s to the present. Progression is measured through the lens of equity, diversity and within the framework of eastern philosophy. A circular, rather than linear process and a point of departure rather than a destination. Her next series of work will explore the tradition of Phulkari, a style, literally translating as “floral embroidery” which is popular in Punjab, India. Incorporating this rich cultural craft and merging into a modern western aesthetic, symbolic of her journey as a Punjabi Canadian woman. One that also honours Parveen’s earlier work created in the decade after graduating from the University of Toronto and included here.
