Mirna Chacin

Toronto
I am a Venezuelan-born Canadian visual artist passionate about telling stories through photography, which is my third eye. My artworks have shown internationally in Art Galleries, Museums, and Photo Festivals. I have received grants from Toronto Arts Council, Ontario Art Council, and Toronto Art Foundation.

My artwork reflects my life experiences encompassing love, inclusion, grief, uprooting, and captivating stories I have found in forgotten towns that struggle to survive.

The "Paraguana" series was my farewell project of Venezuela and the first one I shot using an infrared converted digital camera. I wanted to portray the peninsula's luminosity and give images a timeless and dream-like look fussed with yearning. Furthermore, I aimed to preserve the paradisiacal essence of unique sites that pollution destroyed in the name of progress, as only memories would remain.

I invite you to join me in this tropical journey that helped me to overcome longing in these challenging times.
