Melanie Koteff Backman

I am an emerging artist living and working in Rothesay, New Brunswick, and I am honored to be participating in #TOAF60.

Bay of Fundy is a series of heavily textured brush and palette knife oil paintings inspired by the ruggedly beautiful coastline of Atlantic Canada.

I am interested in how an environment can evoke particular feelings and moods, especially the energizing and calming properties of the ocean and the coastal environment. In response, I create loose, energetic, vivid paintings, often using colours and shapes in unexpected ways to reflect the unpredictable, imperfect treasures that can be found in our natural environment or to convey the mood of a particular place or time.

If you have questions about my work, I’d love to chat with you. I am available for e-mail inquiries, calls, and personal online viewing appointments. I am also happy to discuss custom pieces with you.
