Katrina Schaman

Katrina Schaman grew up admiring many of Canada's traditional landscape artists and over time she has developed her own unique style, using combinations of acrylic paint, graphite, spray paint, hand-cut textured paper and gold leaf. She describes her work as 'Canadian art with a whimsical twist'.

Katrina’s landscape and animal paintings celebrate the deep underlying relationship between abstract and real forms. Always enjoying preliminary sketches and drawings she has set out to create work that balances the free movement and simplicity of a graphite drawing with the rich colour and intricacies of paint. She puts extra effort into the final accents and details on her pieces because she hopes these intricacies will add to the feeling of whimsy and magic.

Katrina strives to create work that will change and grow for a viewer - whether it's the first or hundredth time they see it, the artist hopes that people will continue discovering new forms, feelings and ideas within her work.
