Julie Burke

I’m constantly coming across those scenes in my world that stop me in my tracks.  Nature’s beauty leaves me totally awestruck and emotional at times and I literally feel it manifest in my gut.  The magic of how form is traced by light is an absolute magnet for my attention. I feel a strong need to express the endless possibilities of how fleeting atmosphere nuances colour and light and want to share the overwhelming beauty of the natural world with others who may otherwise overlook the magic.

My preferred medium is oil (also acrylic at times). I strive to express the essence of what drew me to the scene with loose, meaningful brushstrokes. I’ve recently realized that incorporating line work into the brushwork really excites me, in particular when it reveals the carefully chosen toned board/canvas below. The results can be surprising and exciting.

Julie’s paintings can be found in private collections in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, Norway, Denmark and the UK.
