All the Beautiful Colours

Jessica McVicker

Art is expressive and I usually use it to tell a story about my own feelings but I also use it as a learning tool. For this painting I wanted to understand with more depth what it would be like to be a person with darker skin. It was uncomfortable to sense out the possibilities since of course racism was something I thought about. I wanted to paint what I would wish for this character instead or bias or racism: a beautiful summer day with dappling light and flowers.
