Jaymie Lathem

North Bay
Jaymie Lathem is a visual artist based out of Northern Ontario. She studied at OCAD & ACAD, receiving her BFA from Nipissing University.

Primarily focused in drawing and themes of identity, her work plays with the amount of visual information needed to identify a gesture, a feeling, a part of the body or an expression. The tension between highly rendered & absent forms evoke a poignant sense of loss and memory.

Her recent body of work uses found and personal images, some pieces using multiple photos 'stitched' together, constructing figurative bodies that reference both real and misinformed recollections. These works act as mirages of memories that never happened.

"As I try to verbalize and explain my own identity, it’s sometimes difficult to render what is real and what isn’t; who I am vs. who I am not."

Please contact me with questions or more info on any works including detail shots.
