BramptonJaspal Birdi (B.1988 Toronto) is a multidisciplinary artist combining photography and painting. Through programming, print and paint, her practice filters and reconstructs virtual and physical memories.
In production, Jaspal’s photo library is altered by the mechanical hands and memory of a laser printer. Embracing limits and miscommunication, her prints reveal unique errors that mimic watercolour and pencil aesthetics.
In her paintings, enlarged reprints are transferred in a grid like fashion onto a surface to further break down and stress a memory. Jaspal then utilizes oil paint’s loose and restorative qualities to contemplate the value of time-passed as it shapes spatial understanding.
Jaspal graduated with BFA in Drawing and Painting from OCAD University 2010, and a Masters in Arts Management from Istituto Europeo di Design 2013. She is recipient of international awards and honours, exhibiting in notable group and solo exhibitions in Europe and Canada.
