Jane Tarini

I am an artist working in Ancaster Ontario. My current series of drawings is focused on historical images of women and children. These drawings record how women presented themselves in photographs through pose, expression and fashion. I worked from interesting, creative and unusual photographs of women, from childhood to old age. The years of the images range from 1880 to about 1920. Although many of the images are quite serious as is usual in photographs of this period due to the technology and cost involved there are some wonderful glimpses of emotion and personality. The fashions range from flamboyant Victorian bonnets, capes and jewelry to demure Edwardian collars. It is an historical reminder that creating an image for ourselves is not a new phenomenon.
