Jamie MacLean
Forsaking a promising art career in high school, I chose math, sciences and engineering as a career for 30+ years. Embarking on self-employment as a consultant I took a seminar series about operating an independent business. The facilitator advocated blue sky thinking - “If not now, when?”
In 2004, I picked up an out-of-town project and started painting in the hotel room at night. By the end, I thought “I could do this” and became a full-time artist.
Through workshops I honed my focus and since then have participated in 100+ juried art shows, fairs and gallery events.
Since then I’ve been painting full time in a variety of mediums from oils to acrylics. I paint landscapes and work on canvas primarily. I prefer oils and have a lot of great material from around the province.
Recently I have focused more on what is local and to me that is the Don Valley. Our walks on the hillside trails are a great resource of dynamic landscapes, fresh air, energy and colour leading to paintings with vibrant colours, texture and contrast.
