James Bentley

The people in these paintings are family, friends and fellow artists who sat for a live session. These works began as experimental exercises and have evolved with every sitting. To my surprise, it was not the likeness that I gravitated to, but the character of the sitter. The works are based on observation and approached with an open manner to allow something new to come in. Spending time with the model is very important and a great aid to the process of making the painting.
