Surat al Tin (The Fig)

Dan Crawford

The painting shows figs, olives and a design based on a Moroccan carpet. The title is a chapter of the Quran that relates the story of prophets and places. The fig refers to where Noah’s ark landed and the olive refers to the Mount of Olives where Jesus was. Also Mount Sinai is mentioned where Moses received revelation and Mecca where Abraham and Muhammad were located. Today we still enjoy these fruits that have stories of struggles and sacrifices and a rich history like the heavy woven fabric.
