Carrie Perreault

Toronto
Carrie Perreault employs ordinary materials in her practice and prioritizes processes that reflect on systems of support and our emotional and psychological connection to home. In this series titled ‘Emovere,’ which is Latin and where the word emotion originates, she uses ventilation registers filled with plaster—a building material that doubly helps set broken bones—as this work solidifies typically unacknowledged space.

Perreault has received grants and awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). She has participated in residencies at Open Studio, Toronto; The Banff Centre; and Taipei Artist Village. She recently published ‘period of adjustment’ (2019), a poster/ pamphlet with essays by Sky Goodden and Lucy R. Lippard, and ‘The Artist Cookbook Vol. 1’ (2019), bringing 52 artist’s favourite recipes into your own kitchen. ‘Vol.2’ will be published in fall 2021.
