Sofia is a Toronto-based Peruvian Textile and illustration artist. She has a BFA in Fibre from OCAD University. Sofia constructs line-based material objects that engage the audience on different sensory levels in an effort to create new dialogues between viewer and object.

About the work:
These three dimensional sculptures explore visual representations of interwoven textiles through an array of material language, repetition and the use of light. Each sculpture consists of multiple hanging pieces of thread that are handwoven together, forming an intricate pattern that reflects on the wall with the assistance of a light source; with this, creating an interesting play between material and immaterial in which the woven threads transcend their physicality and become a product of light and shadow.

*Due to Covid-19 viewing limitations, virtual studio visits and additional photos and/or videos of pieces avaiable upon request.

Currently avaiable for comission work.
