Shanna Van Maurik’s paintings are rainbow bathed daydreams brought to life. Informed by classical portraiture, nature, and the artist’s experiences of youth, each work incorporates a painterly and expressive treatment of subject matter featuring women and animals. Her paintings explore themes of death, rebirth, imperfections, and beauty through a voyeuristic eye. In 2011, she received a BFA in Drawing and Painting, with a minor in Art History from OCADU where she was awarded for her work in Life and Portrait Study and Contemporary Painting. Her paintings have been exhibited throughout Canada, the United States, as well as Japan, and can be found among collections internationally.
