Keith’s work often explores themes of destruction, masculinity and celebration. These themes are articulated through personal narratives and popular cultural narratives depicted in painting. The work initially emerged as a mining of memory, moments that arrest, moments of crisis and moments of bliss. The works included fit within the broader scope of an unsettling, visceral, often photo based realism within contemporary painting.

The current work combines and juxtaposes both mediated and lived experience. Some works are auto-biographical reportage, others are a felt response to current events, placing the work within our shared history. Increasingly, the paintings begin as collage, weaving together self generated and found images. Painting becomes a transportive act, the artist inhabiting the space of the images, a pastiche of banal, uncanny and spectacular moments in his life and in the news.
