Kate Maura is a recent grad from OCADu 2019. She explores a collaboration of disciplines (biology, poetry, philosophy) recognizing we are only a part of a greater mystery. Kate creates a stylized visual language of imagined transformations, inspired by a Rapids Clubtail dragonfly while drawing in Toronto's watershed area, the Oak Ridges Moraine. Kate learned the dragonfly is a metaphor of transformation and self realization.

Interwining wings and at times figures and text, using both historical ways of making and digital media in her works. She hopes to give space for the viewer to consider that there is much to learn from the natural world, and finding new ways of seeing allows us to understand who we are really so that we can create a better future for all .

Upon graduation Kate was awarded the Mackenzie Investments 'Inclusive Spaces' placement with a work from the dragonfly series, demonstrating the importance of connecting with nature in our urban spaces.
