05) Hairy Times: More Loose Ends
Helena Wehrstein

Upcycled computer wire, used Guatemalan huipil (woman's blouse), old wood, acrylic paint.
Things Guatemalan are close to my heart, and I've always been attracted to the vibrant colours and amazing designs of traditional Mayan textiles. I found this huipil in a huge pile of used clothing in a Guatemalan shop: it is inside out to expose the loose threads, to express many layers of meaning on personal, communal, societal and global levels.
I acknowledge the artistry of the anonymous Mayan weaver.
