Amanda E. Gross is a painter, illustrator, embroiderer, and environmental artist currently based in Beacon, New York. After studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the Glasgow School of Art, Gross has exhibited widely, including The Chicago Botanic Garden and The Salmagundi Club in New York City. Her acrylic paintings on wood and tile revel in color and dynamic layering, and convey a sacred worldview rooted in cosmic humor, earthly biodiversity, and every creatures' right to sovereignty. Re-purposed materials are used when possible. Influences include nature-based mythology, Emily Carr, Max Ernst, William Morris, Kerry James Marshall, Janet Holmes, psychedelic and garage music, earthworks, diaristic comics, and Kenojuak Ashevak.
