06. Surface.Bark_Cross Section_Crack Willow

Alexandra Kiss

I dug into my architectural education about representation and decided to study the cross section of bark. The scales of crack willows are particularly expressive when viewed in elevation, but they are hard to study individually, as they appear to weave into one another. In cross section they can be seen as individual figural masses. Their arrangement and odd forms express the tension of growth forcing them to impinge on each other as the tree grows in circumference. Framing upon request.
